Clay designed and produced a series of key digital exhibits for the newly opened Young V&A.
The Random Prompt Generator is a playful machine which when activated by a visitor, generates and delivers a short prompt helping them to create their own story, inspired by surrounding artefacts. Two novel interfaces - a pump and a wheel - activate playful animations, delivering creative inspiration to the visitor. These stories can then be spoken into whispering tubes, a contraption that counts how many stories have been spoken, before distorting them and playing them back to through fanciful sound tubes. Clay designed the 3D setworks, software and animations, as well as creating the custom electronics needed to activate the components of the machine.
Clay also created a couple of interactive experiences for model doll's houses on display. The Tate Doll's House allowed visitors to ring a replica door bell and trigger random audio narratives that are accompanies by dynamic lighting sequences based on a series of fictitious narratives. The White Ladies Doll's House allowed visitors to re-create a 1930's party; visitors wind a period handle to trigger a 'party' sound with light effects inside the house.
Clay also designed and delivered the software for the Self Portrait Stations. These simple exhibits encourage visitors to sit down, take a selfie, and then use tracing paper and pencils to create an analogue drawing of themselves.
